Real Mallorca Preview: Halting the slide

Real Mallorca begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting tucked inside the top-half of the table but they have slipped away from the European spots after three successive defeats, albeit they will be content with their performance level.

The first of those three defeats saw them lose 4-0 at Villarreal with all four goals inside half an hour but they were the better side for the last hour before losing to Real Betis whilst down to ten men and then suffering a forgivable defeat to Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano last week.

Osasuna Preview: Cup disappointment

Jago Arrasate was replaced by Vicente Moreno and, despite many believing they may well battle against the drop this season, the Pamplona-based club actually begin this match day sitting just above the Majorcans on goal difference.

Osasuna suffered a 2-0 loss to Real Sociedad in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey in midweek a few days after they had defeated the same opposition by two goals to one in La Liga, ending a nine-match winless run of form for them in the league.

Real Mallorca Team News: Need for goals

Mallorca may try and play a more attacking team for this week as they need to recover from their recent poor run of form. They remain without midfielder Manu Morlanes due to injury, whilst both Pablo Maffeo and Antonio Sanchez are doubts for Mallorca.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): Greif; Mateu Morey, Valjent, Antonio Raillo, Johan Mojica; Ruben Navarro, Dani Rodriguez, Costa, Sergi Darder; Muriqi, Larin

Unavailable: Manu Morlanes (Injured)

Questionable: Pablo Maffeo (Injured), Antonio Sanchez (Injured)

Osasuna Team News: Nothing fresh

There are no fresh injury concerns for Osasuna to deal with as attacker Kike Barja remains a doubt for the visitors. That means Bayern Munich loanee and Spain international Bryan Zaragoza, who is Osasuna’s key man, is fit and firing for the trip to Son Moix.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Sergio Herrera; Jesus Areso, Boyomo, Alejandro Catena, Juan Cruz; Jon Moncayola, Lucas Torro, Aimar Oroz; Raul Garcia, Budimir, Bryan Zaragoza

Unavailable:

Questionable: Kike Barja (Injured)

Real Mallorca vs Osasuna Prediction

One of the key reasons for Mallorca swapping from Javier Aguirre to Jago Arrasate last summer was to create a more attacking style of football. However, reliant on two so-called ‘big men’ in Vedat Muriqi and Cyle Larin up-front, Mallorca have badly struggled for goals. They will need to show intent here, though, against his former side and with home advantage. That should help Osasuna on the counter-attack, and in particular the aforementioned Bryan Zaragoza. Mallorca will come through their rough patch and it could well be in this one but the neutral may also find some joy in this.
