There are a number of notable names on the list, a couple of those being currently active players such as Youssofa Moukoko, who had just turned 18 years old when he made his World Cup debut for Germany in 2022.

Most recently claiming a place on this list is Mexico's Gilberto Mora, who made his tournament debut off the bench in the opening match of FIFA World Cup 2026 against South Africa at Estadio Azteca.

Another 18-year-old to appear in the 2022 tournament was Australian Garang Kuol. He was 65 days older than Moukoko when making his World Cup bow for the Socceroos.

The legendary Pele is of course known for being one of the greatest strikers and footballers to have ever lived, with the beginning of his World Cup journey coming as a 17-year-old, when he made his tournament bow for Brazil in the 1958 World Cup, the first to ever appear in the competition at that age.

Pele and Brazil went on to win the 1958 World Cup and as it stands, he remains the youngest player to ever appear in a World Cup final at 17 years and 249 days old, two weeks after making his tournament debut. Brazil beat Sweden 5-2 in that final, with Pele scoring twice.

However, the youngest player to ever appear in the FIFA World Cup up to and including the 2022 FWC is Norman Whiteside, who took the title from Pele when featuring for Northern Ireland against Yugoslavia in 1982. He was 194 days younger than Pele was at the time of his debut.
