Despite Wigan Athletic’s defence looking as shaky as ever, Latics did just enough to edge past Bromley in a 3-2 thriller at the weekend. That lifted them off the bottom of the table and into 21st, now two points away from safety. Gary Caldwell’s side desperately needed that victory, which ended a run of three consecutive defeats.

But now they need to follow that up and ensure the result does not wind up being in vain. Mansfield Town are coming off the back of their unbeaten run being brought to an end by Notts County, in a surprise two-goal home defeat. With Wigan’s tails up, expect them to throw everything at Mansfield, knowing the importance of another three points. However, when taking into account how poor the home side’s defence has been all season long, it is difficult to see them keeping a clean sheet, so attack may well be the best form of defence for them.

Don’t expect Mansfield to go into their shell either. For the Stags, this is a big chance to push themselves closer to the playoff places. With that said, an entertaining 90 minutes could be in store. Regardless of who comes out on top, consider backing over 2.5 goals, as well as both teams finding the net.
