Newcastle VS Everton

Having faced off against each other in the fourth round of the EFL Cup in midweek, Newcastle United and Everton now clash in the Premier League on Monday.

Kick-off date/time:

How to watch on TV & online: UK – Sky Sports & Sky Go / USA – USA Network & Universo

Newcastle preview: Difficult evening

Newcastle United endured a tough time of it at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Thursday as The Magpies succumbed to a 3-1 defeat to Everton in the EFL Cup, only softening that scoreline with a late Dan Burn consolation.

Another hammering on the road, Newcastle have twice been beaten 4-1 in the Premier League away from home this season, albeit did manage a 2-0 victory against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park last weekend.

Everton preview: Moyes’ focus

Back at Everton after winning a major trophy in his managerial career with West Ham United, David Moyes has discussed how it would be good for Everton to go deep in the cups this season and he named a strong eleven for that cup tie the other day.

The Toffees, who head to Arsenal slayers Fleetwood Town of League Two in the quarter-finals in December, have succumbed to back-to-back 2-0 defeats in the Premier League against Chelsea and then Arsenal in recent weeks.

Newcastle team news: Osula a doubt

Having scored a rare goal against Palace last week, injury prone Will Osula twisted his ankle in the cup game in midweek and so he is now a doubt for the hosts this weekend.

Matias Fernandez-Pardo did not recover from illness to feature in the cup game and so remains a doubt alongside academy graduate Lewis Miley, who has an injury.

Further details will appear here following pre-match press conferences…

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Hornicek; Dedic, Schar, Burn, Hall; Gonzalez, Joelinton; Murphy, Willock, Barnes; Wissa

Unavailable: Jaouen (Injured), Livramento (Injured)

Questionable: Miley (Injured), Fernandez-Pardo (Illness), Osula (Injured)

Everton team news: Grealish issues

Having rejoined from Manchester City, Jack Grealish has not yet found his fluency for Everton and he was not deemed available for selection due to a breach of club protocol in their cup game the other day.

Jarrad Branthwaite was also ruled out of that one due to injury but David Moyes has said he should be back involved here and so could come straight back into the side ahead of Jake O'Brien.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Pickford; Rohl, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Hackney, Garner; Johnson, Dewsbury-Hall, George; Barry

Unavailable:

Questionable: Branthwaite (Injured), Grealish (Disciplinary)

  • Everton won 3-2 at St James' Park in the last meeting in February 2026, having also won 1-0 there in May 2025; Newcastle are winless in three home league games against Everton (D1 L2), and their overall home record in the fixture is W16 D5 L10.
  • Newcastle's biggest Premier League win over Everton is 6-2 at home on 29 March 2002, also the highest-scoring game in the fixture.
  • Newcastle have won 15 of their 34 home Premier League games on a Monday since 1992/93, losing only five (D14).
  • Newcastle are eighth coming into Matchweek 9 with 11 points, one above 11th-placed Everton.
  • Newcastle have conceded in 13 consecutive home league games since 7 January 2026; their last home clean sheet was a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace on 4 January 2026.
  • Newcastle's league games have averaged 3.25 goals this season, and they won 2-0 at Crystal Palace last time out.

  • Everton have not won away in the league this season (D3 L1).
  • Everton have never won in 14 Premier League games refereed by John Brooks since his first in 2021/22 (D6 L8).
  • Newcastle have won four of their five home Premier League games under Brooks, most recently 2-0 against Crystal Palace in January 2026.

Newcastle vs Everton prediction

Everton can be forgiven for those defeats to Chelsea and Arsenal, given the quality and status of those two sides, albeit performances remained fairly underwhelming and there is an argument as to whether their focus has shifted away from simply punching above their weight in the league, given how small their squad is, and more focused on the cups. They head to St James’ Park with Newcastle again needing to respond after a shellacking on the road and some supporters do have issues with the inconsistent start of manager Matthias Jaissle. Newcastle had been unbeaten at home before a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa in their last game on Tyneside and the better bet for this one may be for the hosts to remain fairly unconvincing and Everton simply to try and shut things down again and so a low-scoring contest seems worthwhile backing.

Newcastle vs Everton tip: Under 2.5 goals
