Seeking to add to their large collection of silverware from the Luis Enrique era, Paris Saint-Germain now face Lens in the Trophee des Champions at Stade Bollaert-Delelis.

Kick-off date/time:

How to watch on TV: UK – Ligue 1+ / USA – Ligue 1+

Lens preview: A new era

Frustratingly for Lens, they have lost manager Pierre Sage to Crystal Palace over the summer. Sage had led Lens to second place in Ligue 1 last season, narrowly missing out on the title and being genuinely competitive throughout the campaign.

He has been replaced by former Eintracht Frankfurt boss Dino Toppmoller. Toppmoller did a largely good job at Frankfurt with an extremely entertaining style of football but the chaotic inconsistency eventually became too much, leading to his departure in the winter.

Paris Saint-Germain preview: Trophy-laden PSG

In midweek, Paris Saint-Germain overcame Aston Villa to win the UEFA Super Cup in Salzburg, retaining the title after they defeated Tottenham Hotspur on penalties 12 months earlier. That made it 13 trophies for PSG since the appointment of Luis Enrique.

The former Barcelona and Spain boss helped the Parisians reclaim the UEFA Champions League trophy last season, while holding on to the Ligue 1 trophy and they have strengthened their squad with the signings of Maghnes Akliouche and Lucas Digne over the summer, while also reportedly closing in on Ferran Torres and Mika Godts.

Lens team news: Defensive injuries

Bosnia-Herzegovina international defender Nidal Celik withdrew from FIFA World Cup 2026 due to injury and he remains an issue for Lens alongside fellow defenders Samson Baidoo, Jonathan Gradit and Pierre Ganiou.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Risser; Abdulhamid, Nawrocki, Antonio; Aguilar, Titraoui, Haidara, Jhoanner Chavez; Sotoca, Thauvin; Sima

Unavailable: Baidoo (Injured)

Questionable: Celik (Injured), Gradit (Injured), Ganiou (Injured), Edouard (Injured)

Paris Saint-Germain team news: Probable rotation

Ousmane Dembele was rested from the start against Aston Villa but he may start this time around, while fellow attackers Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye, reportedly set to depart the club this summer, were not used in that game.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Safonov; Hakimi, Beraldo, L. Hernandez, Digne; Zaire-Emery, Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz; Akliouche, Dembele, Kvaratskhelia

Unavailable:

Questionable:

Lens vs Paris Saint-Germain prediction

Home advantage could be helpful for Lens here as they try and go at a PSG side that, as has been the case throughout the Luis Enrique era, will likely heavily rotate at the start of this season, especially after playing in midweek. The depth of PSG and their manager’s impressive juggling of his squad should ensure that they remain strong, though. Any game involving Toppmoller on the sidelines tends to be a thriller and PSG should prevail from a potentially fun watch for the neutral in Northern France.

Lens vs Paris Saint-Germain tip: Paris Saint-Germain to win & over 2.5 goals
