All of Kylian Mbappe's FIFA World Cup goals
Having established himself not only as one of the best strikers in the world but also one of the standout goalscorers in FIFA World Cup history, we take a look back at every goal scored by Kylian Mbappe for France up to and including FIFA World Cup 2026 in North America.
As it stands, Mbappe has scored 12 goals in just 14 appearances spanning two World Cups so far, including four in 2018 and a golden boot winning eight goals at FIFA World Cup 2022. Here is a breakdown of all those he has scored for Les Bleus.
Last updated after his third goal against Argentina in the 2022 final
Goal 1 – June 21, 2018 vs Peru (FIFA World Cup 2018, Group Stage)
Mbappe’s FIFA World Cup debut saw him get on the scoresheet against Peru and the Frenchman’s first ever World Cup goal was arguably his easiest, a tap in from a couple of yards out after Olivier Giroud’s left-footed shot was deflected into his path with the goalkeeper stranded. That proved to be in the only goal in the match as France defeated Peru 1-0.
Goal 2 – June 30, 2018 vs Argentina (FIFA World Cup 2018, Round of 16)
The first of two goals scored by Mbappe in a thrilling knockout tie against Argentina saw him demonstrate his incredible close dribbling speed. Lucas Hernandez’s cross fell to Mbappe inside the box and after knocking the ball past an Argentine defender to create some space, Mbappe rifiled a left-footed shot under the goalkeeper to give France a 3-2 lead.
Goal 3 – June 30, 2018 vs Argentina (FIFA World Cup 2018, Round of 16)
Four minutes later, Mbappe created daylight between his side and Argentina, finishing a beautiful, yet lightning quick passing move by Didier Deschamps’ side. Midfielder Blaise Matuidi drove the ball forward before feeding Olivier Giroud, who slipped through Mbappe. Storming in from the right-hand-side, the teenager produced the perfect first-time finish into the bottom corner, establishing himself then and there as a superstar in the making.
Goal 4 – July 15, 2018 vs Croatia (FIFA World Cup 2018, Final)
Mbappe’s fourth goal came on the biggest stage of all. France’s first FIFA World Cup final since 2006 saw them face Croatia and it was inevitable that their new wonderkid would put an exclamation mark on proceedings. With the score 3-1 to Les Bleus in what was a hectic final, Mbappe would make his mark in the 65th minute.
Receiving the ball well outside the area but central of goal and in space, Mbappe made the Croatian defenders pay as his low right-footed strike nestled into the left-hand corner beyond goalkeeper Danijel Subasic. Despite a consolation goal later in play, the damage had been done as France won 4-2 with Mbappe becoming a FIFA World Cup winner at just 19 years of age.
Goal 5 – November 22, 2022 vs Australia (FIFA World Cup 2022, Group Stage)
It didn’t take long for Mbappe to come alive in the group stage of FIFA World Cup 2022. With the score 2-1 between France and Australia in the 68th minute, Mbappe’s low left-footed cross whistled all the way across goal, falling to Ousmane Dembele on the right-hand-side. Dembele then floated in a cross of his own which saw Mbappe head home off the post, his first World Cup goal not scored with his feet.
Goal 6 – November 26, 2022 vs Denmark (FIFA World Cup 2022, Group Stage)
Vintage Kylian Mbappe! That’s the best way to describe his sixth FIFA World Cup goal. Denmark had frustrated France for much of this game but as the game ticked past the hour-mark, Mbappe broke the deadlock. With France on the counter-attack, Mbappe was given the ball inside the opposition half with space to run at the Danish defenders. Run he did, advancing into the box before playing a delightful one-two with left-back Theo Hernandez before finishing first-time past Kasper Schmeichel.
Goal 7 – November 26, 2022 vs Denmark (FIFA World Cup 2022, Group Stage)
After Denmark drew level with France following Mbappe’s opening goal, it was inevitable that the new established superstar striker would have the final say. With four minutes of normal time remaining, Antoine Griezmann’s perfect cross towards the back post was turned in at close range by Mbappe, who had stolen a march on his marker Rasmus Kristensen.
Goal 8 – December 4, 2022 vs Poland (FIFA World Cup 2022, Round of 16)
Poland were the opposition for France in the round of 16 and Mbappe marked the occasion with his eighth and ninth FIFA World Cup goals. His first here was an unstoppable finish. Ousmane Dembele played the ball to Mbappe and with a surprising amount of space and time to compose himself, he took three touches before thrashing the ball into the roof of the net.
Goal 9 – December 4, 2022 vs Poland (FIFA World Cup 2022, Round of 16)
One of the most memorable goals of FIFA World Cup 2022 was also Mbappe’s fifth of the competition. After being fed the ball by Marcus Thuram inside the penalty area, Mbappe unleashed an incredible curling finish to put the exclamation point on a big French victory against Poland despite Robert Lewandowski’s late consolation.
Goal 10 – December 18, 2022 vs Argentina (FIFA World Cup 2022, Final)
A FIFA World Cup final none of us will forget took place at Lusail Stadium in Qatar between France and Argentina. Kylian Mbappe did everything he could to win the trophy for France, becoming only the second player to score a FIFA World Cup final hat-trick after England’s Geoff Hurst in 1966. He also became the top goalscorer in the history of FIFA World Cup finals.
His first in the FIFA World Cup 2022 final came in the 80th minute. With the score 2-0 to Argentina, France were awarded a penalty which Mbappe stepped up and confidently struck home past Emiliano Martinez, who dove to his right but couldn’t stop the ball from finding the net.
Goal 11 – December 18, 2022 vs Argentina (FIFA World Cup 2022, Final)
Just a minute later, the football world was stunned as Mbappe produced a moment of magic to drew Les Bleus level against Messi’s men. After nodding the ball to Marcus Thuram, the substituted clipped the ball in the air back towards Mbappe. Running onto the falling ball just inside the penalty area, France’s main man produced a wonderful sliding volley into the far corner past Martinez to level the score at 2-2.
Goal 12 – December 18, 2022 vs Argentina (FIFA World Cup 2022, Final)
As the FIFA World Cup 2022 final went to extra time, Argentina regained the lead but Mbappe wasn’t going to go quietly. A second penalty went the way of France with two minutes of extra time left to play. Once again Mbappe stepped up and this time Martinez went the wrong way, Mbappe placing the ball into the left-hand corner once more to force a penalty shootout. Whilst Mbappe would score again in the shootout, Argentina would go on to win.
Mbappe’s hat-trick ensured he would be awarded the FIFA World Cup 2022 golden boot. The same prize he’ll no doubt be hunting at FIFA World Cup 2026 as France look to reach their third consecutive final.
