Marseille preview: Another new era
As ever, Olympique de Marseille endured a chaotic campaign last time around and that saw Roberto De Zerbi sacked mid-way through the campaign before Habib Beye oversaw them missing out on European qualification.
They have since shed a lot big name players, such as Bilal Nadir, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyamg and Mason Greenwood, with Beye now replaced by former Stade Rennais and Lille boss Bruno Genesio.
Strasbourg preview: Inertia in the Alsace
Over the summer, BlueCo-owned Strasbourg have another typically busy few months after they lost in both the semi-finals of the Coupe de France and the UEFA Europa Conference League last season, while missing out on European qualification, too, in Ligue 1.
Gary O'Neil has since departed the Alsace region and been replaced by Hugo Oliveira. Oliveira has only ever managed Famalicao, leading the Portuguese outfit to a seventh placed finish in 2025 after a few months in charge before a club-high of fifth last season in his only full season.
Marseille team news: Defensive injuries
Netherlands international midfielder Quinten Timber begins the season missing through suspension. They have some defensive injury issues as Nayef Aguerd, who missed FIFA World Cup 2026, is potentially sidelined alongside Derek Cornelius, who performed well at the tournament.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): De Lange; Hojbjerg, Kondogbia, Balerdi, Emerson; Gomes, Abdelli; Weah, Harit, Igor Paixao; Gouiri
Unavailable: Timber (Suspended)
Questionable: Aguerd (Injured), Cornelius (Injured), Moumbagna (Injured)
Strasbourg team news: Panichelli out
Joaquin Panichelli was excellent for Strasbourg last season, finishing as their top scorer, but he begins the season sidelined due to a knee injury sustained in March. Ben Chilwell is also a doubt due to a hamstring issue.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Jorgensen; Doue, Sylla, Doukoure, Del Blanco; El Mourabet, Oyedele; Reyna, Amougou, Yassine; Mara
Unavailable: Panichelli (Injured)
Questionable: Chilwell (Injured)
Marseille vs Strasbourg prediction
The potential ceiling of Hugo Oliveira is a very exciting one but it does have to be said that operating within the BlueCo multi-club ownership group is tough and yet demanding. Marseille are undergoing yet another overhaul and, while Genesio is a good coach and may well get a tune out of them eventually, it wouldn't be a shock to see Strasbourg take advantage of any slow start made by l'OM here and it could be a smart and good value bet to side with the visitors down on the south coast of France.
Marseille vs Strasbourg tip: Double chance - Strasbourg to win or draw
