Besiktas began life in the Turkish Super Lig with a slender victory against Eyupspor at the weekend. That came after four successive wins without conceding in the UEFA Europa League as they defeated Midtjylland in the second qualifying round and then Hradec Kralove in the third qualifying round.
Lithuanian champions Kauno Zalgiris began their UEFA campaign with a thrilling victory over Drita Gjilan before then edging past Klaksvikar Itrottarfelag in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. They then ran into Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb and succumbed to a 7-1 aggregate defeat.
Kauno were fortunate with their draws in the UEFA Champions League and they are expected to be comfortably beaten once again by Besiktas.
