Shamrock Rovers lost 2-0 away at Floriana but progressed in Dublin. In the next round of the UEFA Champions League, they again lost 2-0 away at Ararat-Armenia before winning 2-1 at home but going out. In the UEFA Europa League, they won 3-1 at home to Egnatia before being blown away by five goals to one in the second-leg in Albania.
Kuopion Palloseura reached the knockout play-off round of the UEFA Europa Conference League last season. This time around, KuPS made it past Vardar in the UEFA Champions League before a defeat to Azeri champions Sabah. They were knocked out of the UEFA Europa League by Universitatea Craiova last week.
Shamrock Rovers have three wins from three at home in Europe. KuPS have lost their last two on the road and, while the Fins are favourites for the tie next week, they may well succumb to defeat in the Irish capital city in this first-leg.
