Universitatea Craiova edged past Belarusian champions Maxline Vitebsk in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League before being beaten by Levski Sofia. They then managed to squeeze past Finnish champions Kuopion Palloseura by three goals to two on aggregate in this competition last week.
Ararat-Armenia got themselves through to the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League with victories against Riga and then Shamrock Rovers, despite losing both away legs in those ties. They then succumbed to a 3-2 aggregate loss to Celje, again winning at home but losing away.
