Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s squad in the March international break but that appeared to be for ‘rest’ and, after a magnificent end to the campaign, he is once again a part of a major tournament squad. Now a UEFA Europa League winner, Watkins scored one of England’s most famous goals at UEFA EURO 2024 as he hit the last-minute winner against Netherlands in the semi-finals. The 30-year-old striker finished the 2025/26 season with a match-winning brace at the Etihad Stadium to defeat Manchester City by two goals to one in Pep Guardiola’s final game in English football – also meaning that Watkins finished the campaign with 13 goals in his last 15 matches across all competitions as Villa finished fourth and won a European trophy.
