You can pick many exciting penalty shoot-outs to look back on from that list, particularly the three World Cup finals to be decided from the spot. Brazil lifted their fourth World Cup in 1994 after beating Italy 3-2 on penalties, the first time ever that the World Cup final was decided via a penalty shoot-out. However, the Azzurri avenged that defeat 12 years later in 2006, overcoming France via spot-kicks to lift the World Cup for a fourth time.
More recently, the 2022 World Cup was decided via a penalty shoot-out following a 3-3 draw after extra time. For the second time, it was to be heartbreak for France from 12 yards as Argentina were perfect from the spot, converting four from four with Lionel Messi, Paulo Dybala, Leandro Paredes and Gonzalo Montiel all scoring, whilst Les Bleus missed twice to seal a 4-2 triumph for Lionel Scaloni's side.
