Borussia Dortmund preview: Sending a message
Niko Kovac will lead a side for the third time in the Super Cup, in this case Borussia Dortmund, who are playing courtesy of their second-place finish in the Bundesliga after Bayern Munich were victorious in both league and cup this season. In eight Super Cup fixtures between the two teams, Dortmund have won three of them with four Bayern Munich wins and one draw.
The Borussia Dortmund hierarchy have worked hard to strengthen the squad in the summer and fans will be excited to get a first look at some of those players here whether it be from the start or off the bench.
Bayern Munich preview: The team to beat
Bayern Munich are firmly on top of the pile in Germany and have been ever since Vincent Kompany walked through the door as head coach. They romped to the Bundesliga title last season with just one defeat across 34 league games and defeated Stuttgart 3-0 in the DFB-Pokal final to secure a domestic double.
Key to their success was striker Harry Kane, who has an excellent chance of winning the Ballon d’Or later this year after racking up 61 goals in 51 appearances for Bayern in 2025-26. On the back of a long FIFA World Cup campaign with England, Kane returns to club action here.
Borussia Dortmund team news: Two absentees

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Kobel; Ryerson, Anton, Bensebaini; Couto, Nmecha, Bellingham, Svensson; Karetsas, Guirassy, Beier

Bayern Munich team news: Saibari set for debut
Bayern Munich face a shortage of options in attacking midfield with Serge Gnabry, Lennart Karl and Jamal Musiala all unavailable, paving the way for Ismael Saibari to make his first start for the Rekordmeister.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Neuer; Stanisic, Upamecano, Tah, Brown; Kimmich, Pavlovic; Olise, Saibari, Diaz; Kane

Borussia Dortmund vs Bayern Munich prediction
As you would expect when these two teams collide, there should be plenty of action and goals. Bayern Munich are the stronger team, although it remains to be seen how they will cope with a few of their attacking midfielders down. The likelihood though, is that Bayern will be fine with Olise and Diaz available and Saibari looking excellent for Morocco during the World Cup.
With Guirassy up top and home advantage in their favour, Borussia Dortmund will pose a big goal threat and as good as Bayern are, Vincent Kompany’s men have never proven to be as formidable defensively as they are going forward. Back the double winners to come out on top, but expect plenty of goals across the 90 minutes.
Borussia Dortmund vs Bayern Munich tip: Bayern Munich to win and over 2.5 goals
