Freiburg preview: Still top three

Julian Schuster will be delighted that despite their recent slump, Freiburg remain in the top three of the Bundesliga after bouncing back last weekend with a 1-2 victory at Augsburg. It's never easy to go to a place like the WWK Arena and win, especially after falling behind, so Freiburg's late comeback was a huge test passed. It's also a clear indication that they have the stomach to sustain a push for the Champions League places.

Having said that, Schuster will be glad to bring his side back home, where they've been outstanding all season. The only team to have beaten Freiburg at home so far in the Bundesliga, are reigning champions Bayern Munich.

Union Berlin preview: Still bottom three

While Freiburg sit in the top three ahead of this latest round of Bundesliga fixtures, it's the opposite story for Union Berlin, who remain in the bottom three after a trio of draws. One of those was a respectable point against Borussia Dortmund, but the other two, against Augsburg and FC Cologne, were opportunities missed.

The numbers make for tough reading at both ends of the pitch. Only two clubs have conceded more goals than Union this campaign, while only Paderborn and Schalke have scored fewer. Having said that, they are unbeaten in their last four league matches, so all hope is certainly not lost.

Freiburg team news: Ogbus doubt

Freiburg are expected to assess the status of Bruno Ogbus closer to kickoff before making a decision on whether he will feature. Muslija and Yilmaz are both missing.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Backhaus; Treu, Ginter, Lienhart, Makengo; Eggestein, Engelhardt; Beste, Suzuki, Scherhant; Matanovic

Unavailable: Muslija (Injured), Yilmaz (Injured)

Questionable: Ogbus (Injured)

Union Berlin team news: Uduokhai banned

Union Berlin are without Felix Uduokhai through suspension, while Markgraf, Nsoki and Skov are all injured. Ilic could make it, but is very doubtful.

Predicted XI (3-4-1-2): Ronnow; Van den Bosch, Friedrich, Khedira; Haberer, Schafer, Aebischer, Kohn; Imeri; Skarke, Burcu

Unavailable: Markgraf (Injured), Nsoki (Injured), Skov (Injured), Uduokhai (Suspended)

Questionable: Ilic (Injured)

Freiburg vs Union Berlin prediction

Despite Freiburg coming off the back of a tough Conference League assignment away at Trabzonspor only a few days ago, this remains a very difficult test for Union Berlin on the road. It's hard to ignore just how formidable Schuster's side have been on home turf, where they've already seen off the likes of Werder Bremen, Borussia Monchengladbach and Schalke 04.

Union's best chance is to stay in the game for as long as possible and hope that fatigue sets in for the hosts as the demanding schedule perhaps takes its toll. However, with one game to play before the international break, Freiburg will no doubt be fired up and are likely to produce their best. In the end, anything other than a home victory would be a shock.
