Getafe preview: Battling in Europe

Jose Bordalas led Getafe to UEFA Europa Conference League qualification last season. Their European campaign began in midweek as they defeated Serbian giants Partizan Belgrade by three goals to one in the first-leg of their play-off round tie.

Getafe did not have the same joy on the opening day of the 2026-27 La Liga campaign as they succumbed to a 3-0 hammering at the hands of Deportivo Alaves in the Basque Country with Kiko Femenia sent off just before half-time with the game goalless.

Racing Santander preview: Back in La Liga

Racing Santander looked like they may make a huge statement upon their return to La Liga last season as they went into a 2-0 lead against Villarreal at El Sardinero last week before settling for a 2-2 draw with all four goals being scored in the first half.

The Cantabrians reclaimed their spot in the top-flight of Spanish football by winning the Segunda Division last season. Racing have not been in La Liga since relegation in the 2011-12 campaign, having even fallen into the third-tier often in the intervening 15 years.

Getafe team news: Mario Martin injury

Mario Martin sustained an injury against Partizan in midweek and so he is now a doubt for this one, while Kiko Femenia will be missing through suspension after his red card against Alaves.

Predicted XI (3-4-1-2): David Soria; Djene, Sazonov, Abqar; Romero, Mangala, Francho Serrano, Johan Mojica; Ramon Terrats; Unal, Martin Satriano

Unavailable: Kiko Femenia (Suspended), Uche (Injured), Juanmi (Injured)

Questionable: Mario Martin (Injured)

Racing Santander team news: Couple of injuries

Racing head to the outskirts of Spain’s capital city with summer signing Pedro Felipe now unavailable due to a hamstring injury as Giorgi Guliashvili works his way back to full fitness.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Julen Agirrezabala; Alvaro Mantilla, Manu Hernando, Pablo Ramon, Jorge Salinas; Gustavo Puerta, Sergio Martinez; Andres Martin, Sergio Canales, Inigo Vicente; Asier Villalibre

Unavailable: Pedro Felipe (Injured)

Questionable: Guliashvili (Injured)

Getafe vs Racing Santander prediction

With their febrile crowd up in the north of Spain, Racing Santander were entertaining and got themselves on the front foot against an open and attacking Villarreal side last weekend. It will be a different type of game here, though, with Getafe set to be even more hostile and combative than they normally are as they try and grind out points early on this season with a packed schedule and so a low-scoring encounter would appear likely.

Getafe vs Racing Santander tip: Under 2.5 goals
