Paris Saint-Germain preview: Brilliant PSG
After winning a first ever treble in the 2024-25 season, Luis Enrique led Paris Saint-Germain to the defence of the UEFA Champions League last season, while also again holding off Lens to ensure they won Ligue 1. They have started this season by winning the UEFA Super Cup but then losing to Lens in the Trophee des Champions.
Luis Enrique had been speculated to be potentially departing the club this summer but the former Barcelona and Spain boss has remained in the French capital city and more of the same is expected of the Parisians after a quiet summer transfer window thus far.
Rennes preview: Gunning to go from the start
After the appointment of former Lens and Nice boss Franck Haise in the spring of this year, Stade Rennais finished last season extremely well but did narrowly miss out on the top four and the UEFA Champions League qualifying spots.
Rennes have remained ambitious in the summer transfer window with their big money move being that of Spanish striker Eliezer Mayenda, who joined from Sunderland for a fee believed to be in the region of £22 million.
Paris Saint-Germain team news: Attacking absentees
Paris Saint-Germain will begin the season without wingers Ibrahim Mbaye and Bradley Barcola as they both continue to be linked with a move away, while Nuno Mendes is unavailable due to suspension.
Predicted XI (4-3-3): Safonov; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Digne; Zaire-Emery, Vitinha, Neves; Doue, Dembele, Kvaratskhelia

Paris Saint-Germain vs Rennes prediction
PSG often underperformed for most Ligue 1 games at home last season with a real feeling that they were simply going through the motions ahead of the big stuff at the back end of the campaign. It wouldn't be a surprise to see them lax again here with Rennes more than capable of posing a lot of threat to their defence. PSG are obviously still favourites but it may not be a straightforward encounter in their opener.
