There is a feeling that, one day, 23-year-old James Trafford will be the ‘number one’ at both Manchester City and with England. The former Bolton Wanderers and Burnley goalkeeper endured a shaky start at City this season, which was then followed by the signing of Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain. However, as his deputy, he finished the season strongly, helping City to win both the FA Cup and the EFL Cup with excellent performances throughout both competitions. Whether or not he stays at the Citizens or moves on to be the outright first-choice elsewhere, Trafford’s future remains bright either way and as is the case with Dean Henderson, he is also an able understudy to first-choice stopper Jordan Pickford.
