It was something of a surprise for Luis de la Fuente to go with Marc Cucurella as his first-choice left-back ahead of UEFA EURO 2024, ahead of the likes of Alex Grimaldo and Alex Balde, but the Chelsea defender repaid the faith shown in him and was excellent throughout that tournament. Cucurella has gone on to establish himself as one of the more reliable players in Chelsea’s often chaotic and inconsistent squad, again key for The Blues as they won the inaugural 32-team FIFA Club World Cup in the United States last summer.
