One of the most intriguing and fun groups at FIFA World Cup 2026, European champions Spain come up against two-time FIFA World Cup winners Uruguay, alongside Saudi Arabia and African debutants Cabo Verde.

Spain side head into this summer under Luis de la Fuente as one of the leading contenders, having qualified in emphatic fashion with the standout performance being a 6-0 demolition of Turkiye. La Roja’s squad does see a number of changes from UEFA EURO 2024 but the Spaniards remain strong.

Marcelo Bielsa and his Uruguay side qualified quite comfortably from CONMEBOL qualification and Bielsa’s one tournament in charge thus far saw them reach the semi-finals of the 2024 CONMEBOL Copa America.

Saudi Arabia went through two coaches in AFC qualification for FIFA World Cup 2026 with Roberto Mancini and Herve Renard sacked before the appointment of Georgios Donis a few months ago. The Green Falcons will hope that Donis helps inspire a successful tournament and if they are to progress through the group stage, they will likely need to pull off a similar shock as to what we saw at FIFA World Cup 2022, when eventual champions Argentina were stunned by Saudi Arabia in their first group match.

Bubista’s Cabo Verde were extremely impressive in CAF qualification for FIFA World Cup 2026, surprisingly edging out African giants Cameroon to reach the 48-team tournament for the very first time.

Cabo Verde and Saudi Arabia are expected to both be blown away by Spain and Uruguay, with the Spaniards remaining firm favourites in Group G. Although Cabo Verde have some added quality in attack, the Saudi Arabians are more likely be able to limit the damage against the two giants in the group.
