Unai Simon, who was in goal for Spain at UEFA EURO 2024, looks set to just about keep hold of the first-choice spot between the sticks for La Roja but he now has fierce competition from David Raya and Joan Garcia, both of whom have emerged as elite talents in the last couple of years. Garcia joined Barcelona from city rivals Espanyol last summer and he went on again to perhaps be the best goalkeeper in La Liga last season but looks set to be third-choice this summer – potentially the best third-choice goalkeeper in FIFA World Cup history such is the loyalty that Luis de la Fuente is showing to Simon.
