Eintracht Frankfurt Preview: Wanting more European success

Coached by Dino Toppmoller, Eintracht Frankfurt have enjoyed a very strong campaign that has continued in the second-half of the season, despite the £59 million sale to Omar Marmoush to Manchester City, as they fight in both the Bundesliga and the UEFA Europa League.

In the UEFA Europa League, Frankfurt defeated Ajax by two goals to one in Amsterdam at the Johann Cruyff Arena thanks to goals from Hugo Larsson and Ellyes Skhiri. They have most recently lost to both Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen, conceding eight goals.

Union Berlin Preview: Struggling Union

Union Berlin come into this one on the back of a 1-0 defeat at home to fellow strugglers Holstein Kiel in their most recent outing at Alte Forsterei last weekend with Bosnia-Herzegovina international attacking midfielder Armin Gigovic scoring the winner before half-time.

The capital city club begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting firmly in the bottom-half of the table but with a six-point gap over the bottom three and relegation playoff place. They have now suffered three successive defeats.

Eintracht Frankfurt Team News: Skhiri suspension

Tunisia international attacking midfielder scored the winning goal for Frankfurt against Ajax the other day but he is now missing through suspension domestically. Former Leeds United defender Robin Koch is a doubt as he may need to follow concussion protocols.

Predicted XI (3-1-4-2): Trapp; Kristensen, Hojlund, Theate; Dahoud; Knauff, Gotze, Larsson, Brown; Ekitike, Wahl

Unavailable: Chandler (Injured), Dina Ebimbe (Injured), Wenig (Injured), Loune (Injured), Skhiri (Suspended)

Questionable: Koch (Concussion), Matanovic (Injured)

Union Berlin Team News: No Skov

Denmark international attacker Robert Skov is unavailable for Union this weekend due to injury alongside Aljoscha Kemlein. They also have a couple of key doubts such as defender Kevin Vogt and Marin Ljubicic.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Ronnow; Doekhi, Querfeld, Leite; Juranovic, Tousart, Khedira, Rothe; Jeong, Volland, Hollerbach

Unavailable: Kemlein (Injured), Skov (Injured)

Questionable: Vogt (Injured), Ljubicic (Injured)

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Union Berlin Prediction

Eintracht Frankfurt’s two defeats against Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen will perhaps be brushed aside by the players, management and staff as reasonable defeats given that they are comfortably the two best teams in the country and Frankfurt being the best of the rest remains a good chance. Union Berlin are currently unlikely to be too nervous about the drop but will be a little concerned, especially with a Frankfurt victory likely this weekend.
