In a close contest in the first-leg of this UEFA Champions League first qualifying round tie, Levski Sofia earned themselves a late 1-0 win against Kairat Almaty with a second half stoppage-time winner scored by Serginho at Vivacom Arena Georgi Asparuhov.
Kairat managed to squeeze past the likes of Slovan Bratislava and then Celtic on penalties in UEFA Champions League qualifying last season on their way to becoming the most easterly team in UEFA Champions League history. They also defeated Omonia Nicosia on penalties in the second qualifying round this season, while Levski have got to this stage with victories against Borac Banja Luka and then Universitatea Craiova.
Kairat have a habit of low-scoring clashes being decided on penalties and it wouldn’t be a shock for that to happen once again at Almaty Central Stadium.
