At the Olympic Stadium in Athens in the first-leg of this UEFA Europa Conference League third qualifying round tie, Panathinaikos were pegged back to a 1-1 draw by CSKA 1948 with Adriano Jagusic’s early opener cancelled out by Georgi Rusev.
CSKA 1948 overcame Spartak Trnava on penalties in the previous round, while Panathinaikos only just edged past Hungarian side Paksi – leaving them frustrated as they try to recreate last season’s quality in Europe as they reached the round of 16 of the UEFA Europa League.
Panathinaikos will believe they should still be difficult to beat against CSKA 1948, even away from home, and extra-time may well beckon in Eastern Europe.
