An old Premier League throwback fixture, now a Championship and here a League Cup first round showdown sees West Ham United and Portsmouth meet for the first time in almost 15 years. West Ham were relegated from the Premier League on the final day of the season but Nuno Espirito Santo has been kept on by the club. A former Championship winner at Wolves, the Portuguese head coach will be tasked with repeating that feat, this time at the Hammers.
Whilst the headlines in Stratford have been dominated by takeover news off the field, on the field West Ham kept hold of their most important player. Jarrod Bowen has committed to the club for this season despite relegation and after missing out on a place in England’s World Cup squad, Bowen will likely come into the campaign fresh and hungry to hit the ground running. The likelihood is that he has a big part to play against Pompey and an attacker of his excellence is worth backing to open his account for the new season.
