Wannabe title challengers Olympique de Marseille got themselves a much-needed victory against Nantes last weekend as they now prepare to welcome an Auxerre side to the Stade Velodrome that have been steady following promotion to the top-flight last season.

MARSEILLE PREVIEW: MESSY MARSEILLE

Coached by former Sassuolo, Shakhtar Donetsk and Brighton and Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi, Olympique de Marseille went through another big spending revolution over the summer with the arrival of quite a few controversial, for want of a better word, characters and their seeming combustibility has been seen on the pitch with wild inconsistencies.

L’OM do come into this one on the back of their aforementioned 2-1 defeat of Nantes in their most recent outing at Stade de la Beaujoire at the weekend. They eased to that victory against their out-of-form opposition with goals in either half scored by Mason Greenwood and Neal Maupay.

AUXERRE PREVIEW: STRUGGLING AUXERRE

Following promotion to the top-flight last season, under the management of Christophe Pelissier, Auxerre started the campaign with an impressive defeat of Nice on the opening weekend of the campaign before a long and winless run of form but that has now ended as they try and propel themselves into the top-half.

The visitors come into this one on the back of a 4-0 hammering of Stade Rennais in their most recent outing at Stade de l’Abbe Deschamps last weekend. That means they have now suffered just one defeat in their last five matches in Ligue 1 either side of the October international break.

MARSEILLE TEAM NEWS: DEPTH OF MARSEILLE

Roberto De Zerbi and his Marseille side have an incredible amount of depth and that has been needed this season with quite a long injury list ahead of the weekend.

Goalkeeper Ruben Blanco is sidelined alongside defender Ulisses Garcia as well as the likes of Bilal Nadir, Valentin Carboni and Faris Moumbagna.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Rulli; Pol Lirola, Balerdi, Kondogbia, Merlin; Hojbjerg, Rabiot; Greenwood, Kone, Rowe; Maupay

UNAVAILABLE: Ruben Blanco (Injured), Ulisses Garcia (Injured), Nadir (Injured), Carboni (Injured), Moumbagna (Injured)

AUXERRE TEAM NEWS: SEVERAL ABSENTEES

Auxerre are dealing with several injury and suspension absentees for this weekend’s trip down to the Velodrome as Jubal and Sinaly Diomande have both picked up too many yellow cards.

As well as both Jubal and Diomande being unavailable, they also have injury issues with Ange Loic N’Gatta, Paul Joly and Ousoumane Camara out injured for Auxerre.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Leon; Pellenard, Osho, Akpa; Hoever, Owusu, Danois, Mensah; Perrin, Traore; Bair

UNAVAILABLE: Jubal (Suspended), N’Gatta (Injured), Joly (Injured), Camara (Injured), Diomande (Suspended)

MARSEILLE VS AUXERRE PREDICTION

This one could be an absolute thriller for the neutral. On paper, Marseille should surely wipe the floor with newly-promoted opposition at the Velodrome but they are far too inconsistent to put too much trust into them. Auxerre have been entertaining to watch and have given teams a good go with a proactive approach in attack. An exciting and fun style of football with over 2.5 goals seems a good bet for this one at the Velodrome, albeit Marseille do remain favourites.

MARSEILLE VS AUXERRE TIP: MARSEILLE TO WIN & OVER 2.5 GOALS
