It has been a disappointing opening few months in charge of Juventus for Thiago Motta with frustrating performances and results. They now face a struggling Venezia in Turin.

Juventus Preview: Old Lady’s new era

Thiago Motta’s style of football is quite extreme and sophisticated but they have been generally underwhelming, despite being the only unbeaten side in Serie A after 15 matches so far this season with six victories and nine draws in those opening 15 games.

The Old Lady come into this one on the back of a 2-2 draw with Motta’s former club Bologna at the J Stadium last weekend. They have struggled for consistency in terms of general cohesion and incision as well as an attacking potency throughout the campaign.

Venezia Preview: Leaky Venetians

After losing manager Paolo Vanoli to Torino since gaining promotion to the top-flight last season, Venezia took the decision to appoint former Roma boss Eusebio Di Francesco with the Venetians sitting rock-bottom in Serie A after just two wins in their opening 15 matches.

The visitors have the second worst defensive record so far with 27 goals conceded in their 15 games. They come into this one on the back of a 2-2 draw with fellow strugglers Como at the Pier Luigi Penzo Stadium last weekend in a game they went 1-0 up and then 2-1 down in.

Juventus Team News: A few injuries

Juventus are benefitting from the much-needed return of Serbia international striker Dusan Vlahovic. However, the hosts are dealing with several injury concerns such as Bremer and Juan Cabal with Andrea Cambiaso also still a key injury doubt.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Perin; Savona, Gatti, Kalulu, Danilo; Locatelli, Fagioli; Conceicao, Koopmeiners, Weah; Vlahovic

Unavailable: Bremer (Injured), Juan Cabal (Injured), Milik (Injured)

Questionable: Cambiaso (Injured), Gonzalez (Injured)

Venezia Team News: Couple of issues

Venezia have no fresh injury concerns so they will be able to name an unchanged eleven for the weekend’s trip to Turin. Alfred Duncan is sidelined through injury due to a calf issue, whilst Antonio Raimondo is also an injury doubt for the visitors.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Stankovic; Altare, Svoboda, Idzes; Candela, Doumbia, Caviglia, Zampano; Oristanio, Busio; Pohjanpalo

Unavailable: Duncan (Injured)

Questionable: Raimondo (Injured)

Juventus vs Venezia Prediction

The fact that Juventus remain unbeaten is clearly a positive but it is also representative of how cautious and overly careful they can be in Serie A, which is a major criticism of Thiago Motta and his style of football. They now face a Venezia side that lack a lot at both ends of the pitch and have a general lack of quality. Juve may well struggle and it could be a low-scoring affair but the hosts remain the firm favourites for this one, especially with their home advantage.

Juventus vs Venezia Tip: Juventus to win & under 3.5 goals
