Belal Muhammad vs Jack Della Maddalena prediction

Belal Muhammad (24-3) makes the first defence of his welterweight title as he returns to action for the first time since dethroning Leon Edwards at UFC 304 last July.

Muhammad has been on a tear over the last few years having gone unbeaten in 11 fights and not tasted defeat since losing a unanimous decision to Geoff Neal back in January 2019.

Since that loss, he has beaten every man put in front of him and the quality of his opponents over the last few years has been particularly impressive.

He now faces rising star Jack Della Maddalena (17-2) who lost the first two fights of his professional MMA career but has since won all 17 since then.

After coming through Dana White’s Contender Series in September 2021, Della Maddalena has won all seven fights in the UFC and he has entertained at the same time winning five Fight or Performance of the Night binuses.

The style and manner of his victories is what has seen him rise to prominence as much as anything else but his last two wins over Kevin Holland and Gilbert Burns have catapulted him into the upper echelon of the division.

All that said, we do think he is in Muhammad’s class just yet. The Australian may still have levels to go but Muhammad is a different level right now in our opinion. Della Maddalena’s 17-fight winning streak certainly makes you sit up and take notice but he has fought nowhere near the calibre that the champion has. We expect Muhammad to defend his title and snap the challenger’s run.

Prediction: Belal Muhammad to win
