Katlyn Cerminara: Veteran volume striker returns after two and a half years away

Longtime fans will know Katlyn Cerminara (18-6) by her maiden name, Chookagian. She returns for the first time since March 2024, when she lost a decision to Maycee barber, which followed a decision loss to Manon Fiorot. A UFC mainstay since 2016 and a former title challenger, Cerminara is a long, high-volume kickboxer with a huge frame for 125. She sets the pace behind her jab, moves laterally well, and mixes in knees and kicks, fighting for the decision rather than the finish. She isn’t the most accurate, absorbs nearly as much as she lands, carries little power, and struggles when opponents close the distance and make it scrappy.

Mackenzie Stiller: “Mack-Judo” makes her UFC debut

Mackenzie Stiller (6-1) steps in for Jamey-Lyn Horth to make her UFC debut, with five of her six wins coming by submission. She’s predominantly a grappler with high-level judo and bjj, closing the distance to throw her opponents before finishing them on the floor. Her striking is limited, mostly a right straight and kicks, and she lacks high-level experience, having only fought seven times as a pro. She gives up a lot of size here, standing just 5’2” with a 62 inch reach.

Katlyn Cerminara vs Mackenzie Stiller prediction

This is a pretty low-level fight, with a UFC veteran on one side and an inexperienced grappler on the other. The size difference is huge – Cerminara has seven inches in height and six in reach, and she’ll look like she’s from a different weight class.

If Stiller can get the fight to the ground, she can work her submission game, but the question is whether she can get there at all. She needs to close the distance to land her judo throws, and Cerminara’s jab, lateral movement and range management are built to stop exactly that. Even if Stiller gets inside, she may be too small to drag the bigger woman down. On the feet, her limited striking won’t get much done at this range.

Ring rust is a concern for Cerminara after two and a half years away, and she has dropped two in a row. Don’t be surprised by a submission from Stiller if the veteran gets careless in a scramble. But Cerminara has the experience, the volume and the physical advantages, and she should be able to outside-fight her way to a decision.

Prediction: Katlyn Cerminara to win
