Southampton Preview: Saints need a miracle

Southampton, under the management of former Roma boss Ivan Juric, come into this one on the back of a 3-1 defeat to champions-elect Liverpool at Anfield last weekend in a game in which they did take the lead in first-half stoppage-time via Will Smallbone.

Liverpool needed a couple of penalties scored by Mohamed Salah as well as a strike from Darwin Nunez to turn the game on its head. Saints have collected just nine points, two behind Derby County’s record lowest points tally in Premier League history.

Wolves Preview: Wolves’ improvement

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been much-improved since Vitor Pereira replaced Gary O’Neil in the Molineux dugout in mid-December and they have opened up a six-point gap between themselves and the bottom three and the relegation places ahead of this match day.

Wolves most recently shared a 1-1 draw with David Moyes’ much-improved Everton side at Molineux in their most recent outing last weekend. Marshall Munetsi scored his first goal for Wolves in that game, equalising for the hosts after Jake O’Brien gave Everton the lead.

Southampton Team News: No Bednarek

In his pre-match press conference ahead of the visit of Wolverhampton Wanderers, Ivan Juric has confirmed that Jan Bednarek will be unavailable due to concussion protocols. There has been no update on the injured James Bree and Ryan Fraser, whilst Juan Larios and Ross Stewart are continuing to build their fitness levels back up.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Ramsdale; Walker-Peters, Bella-Kotchap, Harwood-Bellis, Manning; Ugochukwu, Downes; Dibling, Fernandes, Sulemana; Gronbaek

Unavailable: Bednarek (Concussion), Smallbone (Injured)

Questionable: Bree (Injured), Larios (Fitness), Fraser (Injured), Stewart (Fitness)

Wolves Team News: Munetsi is fit

Matheus Cunha is serving the second of what is a three-match ban so he remains unavailable but Zimbabwe international Marshall Munetsi has been confirmed as being fit and Vitor Pereira has confirmed that the visitors are not dealing with any other fresh injury concerns.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Sa; Doherty, Agbadou, Toti; Semedo, J. Gomes, Andre, Ait-Nouri; Munetsi, Bellegarde; Strand Larsen

Unavailable: Mosquera (Injured), Chiwone (Injured), Gonzalez (Injured), Cunha (Suspended), Kalajdzic (Injured)

Questionable:

Southampton vs Wolves Prediction

Southampton have shown some improvement under Juric at times, but that has mainly come on the road when they have been able to set up in a more defensive setup, at odds to what Russell Martin tried to do with Saints. They face a Wolves side that do look a bit toothless without key man Matheus Cunha so, whilst Wolves do remain favourites at St Mary’s, it is expected to suitably hard-fought for Vitor Pereira and his battlers.
