Tecia Pennington (14-7) is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Carla Esparza last time out and she will be desperate to build on that here. After two years out of the Octagon due to the birth of her daughter in June 2023, she returned to action in Mat 2024 and lost a split decision to Tabatha Ricci. She bounced back nicely against Esparza and will now look to make it back-to-back wins and move further up the rankings.
She takes on Luana Pinheiro (11-4) who is ranked two places below her at 15 in the rankings but comes into this bout having lost her last three fights. Those have come against Amanda Ribas, Angela Hill and Gillian Robertson last time out.
There are signs that Pinheiro has found her level and it struggling against ranked opponents so this really is a big fight that she needs to win here.
That will not be easy though against a fresh Pennington who will fancy her chances. The lay-off has done her wonders and while she too has not found it easy against the elite in the division, she has competed well and has some notable wins.
Pennington should be too good all-round for Pinheiro here but will likely go to the scorecards.
