Ilia Topuria (16-0) will fight for the lightweight title after he vacated his featherweight belt and he takes on Charles Oliveira (25-10 with one no contest) at UFC 317.
The number three in the pound-for-pound rankings, Topuria will look to extend his stunning 16-fight winning streak and he comes off a 2024 where he knocked out both Alexander Volkanovski and then Max Holloway. He has beaten the best the featherweight division has to offer and now he steps up to meet Oliveira.
Oliveira is a former lightweight champion and he will be relishing this opportunity. The Brazilian has been outstanding in recent years but there have been signs of age catching up with him somewhat and the likes of Islam Makhachev and Arman Tsarukyan surpassing him.
Oliveira can beat anybody on his day but he is coming up against somebody who is just as skilled as him and arguably has the edge in power. We cannot see any are in which Topuria, who is at the absolute top of his game right now, does not better Oliveira and we expect him to get the stoppage to become a two-weight UFC champion.
