Mayra Bueno Silva: What does "Sheetara" have left in the tank?
Coming up short for the women’s bantamweight title against Raquel Pennington just over two years ago at UFC 297, it’s been a rough fall from grace for Mayra Bueno Silva (10-6-1, 1 NC). The 34 year old “Sheetara” is winless since that result, with her most victory prior to the Pennington defeat even getting overturned to a NC due to a failed drug test. Bueno Silva’s UFC record currently stands at 5-6-1, 1 NC since joining the promotion back in 2018, a far cry from the finisher who earned a shot at Amanda Nunes’ vacant title.
Michelle Montague: Can the Kiwi score the biggest win of her young career?
Putting her undefeated record on the line for the second time under the UFC banner, Kiwi wrestler, Michelle Montague (7-0) looks to be an extremely promising addition to the women’s bantamweight ranks. A decorated amateur prior to turning pro, the 32 year old PFL veteran earned an exceedingly dominant decision over Luana Carolina in her debut last September, scoring one 30-25 scorecard and two 30-26s in her first professional fight to go the distance. Prior to that contest, “The Wild One” boasted a 100% submission rate, with all of those wins coming by way of rear-naked choke.

How is Bueno Silva still on the roster? In addition to forming one half of the lowest level title fight in UFC history, “Sheetara” is currently riding a four fight losing streak and hasn’t earned a victory since 2023. She’s looked worse with every subsequent appearance and now finds herself being fed to one of the scarier prospects at 135 pounds.
Montague isn’t flawless, but she’s a damn good wrestler. Bueno Silva doesn’t have terrible takedown defense at 63%, but whether she can stay upright in the face of the Kiwi’s grinding grappling offense is another question entirely. She’s even more relentless once the action hits the mat, actively looking to cause damage and hunt submissions. If she can get “Sheetara” down and start teeing off, there’s a strong possibility that Bueno Silva quits before she manages to regain her feet.
Montague’s striking does leave a lot to be desired; getting badly clipped by Luana Carolina is decidedly not a good look. In days gone by, there may have been the off-chance that the Brazilian could catch her with something on the feet, but given how dismal Bueno Silva has looked as of late, I wouldn’t count on it.
