Marcus Buchecha: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu looking for first win in Octagon
Marcus Buchecha (5-2-1) is still looking for his first win since joining the UFC in what is the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist third fight. He lost his debut against Martin Buday and then earned a unanimous draw against Kennedy Nzechukwu last time out in December but that was only due to the fact that his opponent was deducted a point due to an eye poke. Buchecha is going to have to step up a level if he is to have any future in the organisation.
Ryan Spann: 34-fight vet aiming for back-to-back wins
Ryan Spann (23-11) comes into this event off the back of a submission victory at UFC 318 where he overcame Lukasz Brzeski. That was his first win after moving to heavyweight as he was knocked out in his debut at the weight by Waldo Cortes-Acosta. He has lost four of his last six bouts overall but he comes in with some confidence after the win last July.
Marcus Buchecha vs Ryan Spann prediction
This is an interesting heavyweight fight between two veterans who both need a win to stay somewhat relevant. Buchecha has struggled since arriving in the promotion and his time in the UFC could be shortlived with another loss here.
Spann has credit in the bank but has clearly declined in the last couple of years since fighting at a much higher level.
Buchecha comes into this one as the marginal favourite but it is hard to have any real confidence in him at present. He may well have desperation on his side but Spann is an experienced campaigner and will be ready to handle whatever he throws his way.
We prefer Spann in this one given his greater Octagon experience and the fact he has more ways to win than the Brazilian.
Prediction: Ryan Spann to win
