Iasmin Lucindo: Can the Brazilian prospect get back on track?

5-2 under the UFC banner, Iasmin Lucindo (18-6) debuted with a decision loss to Yazmin Jauregui before reeling off a four fight win streak to earn her dark horse status at 115 pounds. A decision loss to Amanda Lemos slowed her roll somewhat, but not as badly as a nine month suspension for a failed drug test did. That development saw a fight with recent title contender, Gillian Robertson, fall through; Lucindo hasn’t fought in over a year as a result.

Nicolle Caliari: Caliari aims to push her promotional record to 2-2 and collect back to back wins

Nicole Caliari (9-4) posted her first win in the UFC last time out, scoring a third round submission over Shauna Bannon. Prior to that, the Brazilian had dropped her first two bouts in the promotion, losing to Carli Judice and Ernesta Kareckaite after earning a contract on the Contender Series. She’s a finisher first and foremost, having earned all of her wins inside of the distance, but she’s struggled with opponents where she doesn’t have a physicality advantage.

Iasmin Lucindo vs Nicolle Caliari prediction

This looks like a rough night in the making for Caliari.

Not only is Lucindo is considerably cleaner and more technical in the striking department, her strength and athleticism means that she’s got significantly more firepower on the feet. She’s also entering this matchup with a solid 4” reach advantage.

Caliari eats a lot of damage in all of her fights, absorbing almost 6 significant shots a minute across her UFC tenure. She has the most success when she’s able to implement her wrestling, but she’s also struggled in fights where her opponent has been able to match or surpass her in terms of athleticism. It doesn’t bode well that I’d argue that Lucindo falls into the latter quality.

Lucindo hasn’t been proven to be much of a finisher throughout her time in the promotion and Caliari has only been stopped by the heavy-handed Carli Judice; accordingly, I’m not confident in a finish materialising. With that being said, I believe Lucindo has the edge wherever the fight takes place; she should comfortably win a decision to kick off the card.

Prediction: Iasmin Lucindo to win by decision
