Francis Marshall: "Fire" looks to build on a dominant showing in his most recent appearance
Fresh off dispatching Erik Silva with a first round rear naked choke, there’s a solid argument to be made that Francis Marshall (9-3) should be riding a three fight win streak heading into this one; something becomes all the more impressive when you consider that his sole defeat during that stretch was an exceedingly controversial decision loss to the surging Mairon Santos. Not withstanding that razor-close loss, Marshall hasn’t been defeated decisively since a TKO defeat to Isaac Dulgarian back in 2023. A dangerous grappler with solid pop in his hands, “Fire” looks to be coming into his own after some early setbacks in his UFC career.
Lucas Brennan: Additional text here
Called in on short notice to make up the numbers on one of the worst cards in recent memory, Lucas Brennan (11-2) looks to seize his opportunity in the UFC with both hands. A second generation UFC fighter following in the footsteps of his father, Chris, Brenann is a talented submission threat; “Skywalker” has eight wins by tap out to underline the threat that he poses on the mat. However, while he’s currently riding a two fight win streak, the Bellator alum’s aura as a prospect to watch took a considerable hit following back-to-back defeats to sub-par opposition across a rough 2024.
Francis Marshall vs Lucas Brennan prediction
Brennan is a solid regional level talent, but there’s a reason that he’s such an enormous underdog heading into this short notice debut. His two professional losses came at the hands of fighters who aren’t anywhere near UFC level, a damning indictment of his own skillset heading into this one.
On the other side of the cage, Marshall has had mixed results throughout his UFC tenure, but he’s still unequivocally proved that he belongs at this level. His controversial loss to Mairon Santos continues to age better by the day, and he’s only ever lost to extremely solid levels of competition outside of the Brazilian since joining the promotion. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s never been submitted throughout his career; seemingly Brennan’s clearest path to victory here.
This is likely to be an entertaining scrap, but Marshall’s more well-rounded skillset means that he’s definitely the pick here. I like “Fire” to land the better strikes and mix in some well-timed takedown attempts to keep Brennan guessing across three rounds, potentially even leaning on his power advantage to hurt Brennan on the feet en route to the decision victory.
Prediction: Francis Marshall to win
