Ode Osbourne: Aggressive but vulnerable
5-7 with 1 NC since joining the UFC back in 2020, Ode’ Osbourne (13-9, 2 NC) returns in the wake of his last loss being declared a NC due to a failed drug test for Alibi Idiris. “The Jamaican Sensation” is a sharp striker with remarkable power for 125 pounds, allowing him to score some impressive finishes in his best showings. However, Osbourne’s aggressive approach means that he’s also been KO’d by some of the heavier-hitting fighters at flyweight, while his grappling shortcomings have also left him open to being taken down or submitted.
Cody Durden: Downward spiral?
Making his 18th walk to the Octagon come Saturday night, Cody Durden (18-11-1) has been a staple of the flyweight division since joining the promotion in 2020. “Custom Made” has been in there with some of the best fighters at flyweight, facing the likes of Joshua Van and Muhammad Mokaev throughout his tenure. However, he’s hit a rough run of form in the twilight of his career, going 1-4 across his last five with three stoppage losses. At his best, Durden is a grinding wrestler who does his best work when he’s able to implement takedowns consistently.
Ode Osbourne vs Cody Durden prediction
This one likely goes one of two ways. Durden either leans on his wrestling to blanket Osbourne across three rounds to a decision, or “The Jamaican Sensation” slimes him out with something brutal in the open.
Of the two outcomes, I’m leaning towards an Osbourne KO here. While the Jamaican has historically proven to be a notoriously unreliable pick, he has some serious power for a flyweight and enters this matchup with a commanding 6” edge in reach. He may not have the most impressive record, but he’s hung tough with some solid names at flyweight.
With that being said, Durden decidedly isn’t dead in the water. If he can rack up takedowns, there’s definitely a chance that he can grind out a decision through control time. Osbourne has been beaten by dogged wrestlers before and his takedown defence of just 66% gives cause for concern.
However, in order to implement his game, Durden is going to have to survive the early goings without getting clipped with something fight-ending. Given that his chin has deteriorated considerably as his career has progressed, I don’t think that’s going to happen.
Prediction: Ode Osbourne to win by TKO
