Zachary Reese: Tough KO defeat
Currently mired in a two-fight losing skid, Zach Reese (10-4) returns following a nasty KO loss to Ryan Gandra last time out. 4-4 with 1 NC since joining the promotion as an undefeated prospect via the Contender Series, “Savage” has established himself as a middle-of-the-pack 185-pounder. With an impressive frame for the weight class, he’s a well-rounded combatant with powerful technical kickboxing and underrated submission ability, but frequently suffers from poor decision-making and a lack of urgency. Reese has also had some really rough stoppage losses, including a brutal slam KO against Cody Brundage in his debut.
Mickey Gall: Returning after near two-year absence
Returning for his first fight since 2024 after a pairing with Sedriques Dumas fell apart last month, it’s been a long time since Mickey Gall (7-7) was touted as a prospect to watch in his early UFC days. Best known as the man to beat CM Punk in the wrestler’s UFC debut, Gall is 4-7 since that run. A jiu-jitsu fighter by trade, Gall’s goofy striking has had some disastrous outcomes when he’s unable to get matters to the ground and hunt for his trademark RNC. The American is currently riding a four-fight losing streak, with two of those losses coming by way of brutal KO.
Zachary Reese vs Mickey Gall prediction
With the greatest of respect, Reese is not a very good middleweight. He has all the physical attributes to be a contender, but just never seems to be able to put it all together in the cage on fight night.
However, there’s an argument to be made that Gall is the worst 185-pounder currently signed to the roster. Not only does the American have a legitimate .500 Artem Lobov-esque record at what is allegedly the highest level of MMA, he’s riding a four-fight losing streak with two stoppage losses and hasn’t fought in over two years. For context, I was picking Sedriques Dumas, 0-4, 1 NC with four stoppage defeats across his last five, to beat Gall in their cancelled fight last month.
In short, while I don’t particularly rate Reese, I think he’s good enough to not only beat, but finish this version of Gall. He’s not the heaviest hitter, but Gall has such non-existent pop on the feet that he should be able to take his time in the striking exchanges to line up a KO shot; it doesn’t hurt that he has a slight edge in terms of height and reach. “Savage” even has some solid submissions in his back pocket; I could also envision him hurting Gall on the feet before finding a tap on the floor.
Prediction: Zach Reese to win by stoppage
