Jake Matthews vs Chidi Njokuani prediction

Jake Matthews (21-7) returns to action for his second fight of 2025 as he comes off a unanimous decision win over Francisco Pardo back in February. That was his second successive win in what is the first time he has won back-to-back fights since 2020. The Australian welterweight has been found wanting against some of the rising stars of the division like Sean Brady and Michael Morales but outside of those, remains as competitive as ever.

He meets Chidi Njokuani (15-10 with one no contest) who has good momentum of his own having won his last three fights. That coincided with his return to welterweight after several years in the middleweight division. Before the switch, he lost his last three fights in the middleweight division as the weight looked to be too much for him.

Now he faces a tough test against the durable and talented Matthews and this is a really interesting clash of styles.

We like Njokuani’s chances here and what he brings into this one. One concern we do have is the weight cut and it is not easy to go back down a division at his age. He missed the weight last time by over two pounds and so much depends on how his preparations have been for this one.

With those concerns in mind, we favour this one to go the distance regardless of who wins.

Prediction: Fight to go the distance
