Derrick Lewis vs Tallison Teixeira prediction

Derrick Lewis may be past his prime, but he is still capable of providing a stern test for any rising prospects.

Tallison Teixeira is being heralded as a future contender in the UFC Heavyweight division. The young Brazilian has finished all 8 of his professional wins in the first round, showcasing an ability to use his range, pressure opponents, and capitalise on even the slightest mistakes. However, his pro-career has lasted a combined total of just 16 minutes. While it’s difficult to criticise somebody who has been such a prolific finisher, he remains untested. We don’t know how he performs in an extended fight, nor how well he handles dangerous power punchers.

Lewis, who holds the record for most KOs in UFC history, is a fighter who can lose every second of a fight but still snatch victory from the jaws of defeat with a single fight-ending punch. Notably, he has previously faced 3 men taller than 6’5” (Tallison is 6’7”)– winning all three by KO.

Tallison absorbed 19 significant strikes in under 2 minutes during his Dana White Contender Series fight. If he shows a similar level of defensive vulnerability on Saturday, his hype train could be derailed before it even left the station.

Lewis’ durability has declined in recent years, and he tends to struggle with fighters who can put him on to the back foot. Still, “Fight ends in round 1” at 1.82, looks like a smarter play than Tallison at 1.36.  That line covers both Tallison’s main win condition and the ever-present danger of Lewis landing an early killshot.

Prediction: Fight to end in round one
