Oumar Sy: Will the Frenchman rebound from his first stoppage defeat?

Looking to bounce back from a submission defeat to Ion Cutelaba in his last fight, Paris native, Oumar Sy (12-2), makes the walk on home turf come Saturday night. A physically imposing 205 pounder who stands 6’4”, Sy does his best work when he’s able to get his wrestling going. The former KSW fighter is now 3-2 since joining the UFC as an undefeated prospect back in 2024, earning wins over Tucco Tokkos, Da Woon Jung, and Brendson Ribeira, while dropping results to Alonzo Menifield and the aforementioned Cutelaba.

Modestas Bukauskas: "Mody" looks to cash in as a slight underdog

8-5 across two stints with the UFC, it’s been a rough 2026 for Modestas Bukauskas (20-7). A four fight win streak had many believing that “The Baltic Gladiator” had turned a corner, only for Bukauskas to suffer a nasty KO loss to Nikita Krylov as a favorite. His only fight since, a split decision win over the debuting 8-4 Christian Edwards, did little to reassure fans that his loss to “The Miner” was a mere blip. A huge, powerful striker, Bukauskas has all the physical attributes to be great at 205 pounds, but he’s been consistently let down by poor accuracy and suspect defence.

I’m surprised to see Sy as big of a favorite as he is. The Frenchman is a talented athletic powerhouse, but the manner of his loss to Ion Cutelaba last time out really gave cause for concern. He folded with barely any resistance against “The Hulk,” tapping out in an instant as soon as he ran into any adversity.

Sy could conceivably submit Bukauskas himself but Mody has always had really underrated defensive grappling and takedown defence. Based on his build, you would assume that the Frenchman has got deadly power on the feet, but he tends to be quite plodding and passive while he has never really been a one-punch KO threat. By contrast, while he has suspect striking defence and below par shot selection, Mody has proved that he’s still capable of landing devastating shots from all ranges.

In short, I think that the Frenchman is going to try for a few takedowns, get stuffed, and find himself trapped with “The Baltic Gladiator” on the feet and forced to trade. From there, I believe it’s only going to be a matter of time before he gets boomed with something fight ending.
