Michael Aljarouj: "The Soldier" goes to war as the hometown favorite

Touching down for his UFC debut, Michael Aljarouj (13-3, 2 NC) hasn't lost a fight since succumbing to a TKO defeat to future UFC competitor, Azat Maksum. A polished, technical striker who can produce a stoppage out of nowhere, "The Soldier" has ten finishes in thirteen pro wins, with seven of them coming in the very first round. On paper, the main asterisk against Aljarouj is his last fight; he lost a five round decision to regional level competition that was overturned to a NC for "officiating errors" in a result that is currently being disputed.

Fabia Sintes: "El Potro Menorquin" makes the jump from WOW FC

Former WOW FC flyweight champion, Fabia Sintes (11-3) gets his shot at a UFC dream off the back of a seven fight win streak with five finishes. A slick scrambler with thudding hands who thrives in a scrappy fight, "El Potro Menorquin" is an extremely aggressive fighter, throwing the kitchen sink at his opponents in an effort to get them out of there. The 32 year old Spaniard has demonstrated some holes in his game, notably his striking accuracy and his takedown defence, but he's proven to be such a ball of energy that he typically manages to grind out the win regardless. He's only ever been finished once, a submission loss in just his second pro fight.

Michael Aljarouj vs Fabia Sintes prediction

This should be an entertaining, high paced flyweight scrap.

If there is a finish, I favour Sintes to score it. Not only is he the bigger man, but he's extremely aggressive and seemingly throws everything with all the power that he can muster. I can potentially envision him coming out like a bat out of hell and melting Aljarouj with an early missile.

However, while Sintes is a risky test, I’m leaning towards Aljarouj to ultimately earn the victory here. While it's part of what makes him dangerous, the Spaniard throws everything with such heat that he often overextends and off balances himself as he swings for the bleachers, a state of affairs that renders him ripe for a well timed counter or takedown.

Aljarouj looks to be the more patient, technical fighter of the two men and accordingly, I like his chances to remain composed and exploit "El Potro Menorquin's" mistakes. He has a crisp jab and an excellent straight right hand of his own; it's not out of the realms of possibility that he counters Sintes really badly as he rushes in.

It's hard to know what to expect from either man until they have a UFC bout under their respective belts, but the tentative pick is Aljarouj by decision.

Prediction: Michael Aljarouj to win by decision
