Matthieu Letho Duclos: Hexagone champion gets his shot at the big leagues on home soil

Matthieu Duclos (10-3) arrives at the Accor Arena riding a four-fight win streak, having rebuilt himself neatly after Marco Tulio knocked him out on the Contender Series in 2024. The former Hexagone champ has finished the majority of his wins, four of them inside the opening round. He’s a kicker first, whipping up fast head kicks and piling on the kicking volume, and there’s decent boxing there when he chooses to let his hands go. The problem is that he doesn’t do it often. He doesn’t react well to punches, flinching heavily, covering up and leaning back.

Luis Felipe Dias: Dynamic finisher, absolute powerhouse

Luis Felipe Dias (17-5) announced himself in May, stalking Yisak Lee down in Macau and folding him with a right hand inside a round on his debut. 16 out of 17 of this Brazilian’s wins have come by finish, an even split of eight KOs and submissions, and he’s now on a four-fight run stretching back to 2023. He earned his contract by submitting Donavon Hedrick on the Contender Series. Dias is a densely built, powerful grappler who transitions well, mixes ground and pound to open up submissions, and is lethal once he gets to the back.

Both men kick well, but it’s the tools around the kicks that separate them. Duclos has the speed, volume and technique, Dias has the power and a far broader set of ways to win. The Frenchman doesn’t open his hands up much, he’s more concerned with what’s coming back than what he can land, and against an opponent happy to eat one to land one, that reluctance becomes a real problem. Dias is more comfortable of the two in the boxing exchange, and the power gap is enormous with the hands.

Duclos also doesn’t show much striking defence. He flinches at power punches, covers and leans back. Duclos is the better and more technical striker of the two, with more tools on the feet, but he’s very hittable, and most of his highlight work has come from walking lesser opponents onto the fence. Dias wont be walked down that easily, he’ll want to be the one applying the patient pressure.

The grappling isn’t close. Duclos has nice trips against the cage, but his takedown defence is fairly untested, he won’t want this on the floor. Duclos’ chances climb in the second half of the fight, once Dias’ initial power decreases and if he manages to keep this on the feet, but I expect him to be timid of the power coming back. I think the physicality will play a big part of this fight, Dias will overwhelm Duclos early.
