Serghei Spivac vs Waldo Cortes-Acosta prediction

Moldova’s Serghei Spivac (17-5) returns to action hoping to bounce back after he suffered a TKO loss at the hands of Jailton Almeida in January at UFC 311. His losses in the UFC over the last few have come against some of the best in the division including Tom Aspinall and Ciryl Gane but after two losses in his last three, he knows he needs a win here to stay in and around the top five in the division.

Spivac sits at number seven in the rankings and he meets 11th-ranked rising star Waldo Cortes-Acosta (13-1) on Saturday night in Newark.

Cortes-Acosta is on a tear right now in the heavyweight division having won his last four and six of his seven fights in the UFC. His sole loss came against Marcos Rogério de Lima who edged a unanimous decision against him back in 2023 but that is the only blemish on his resume.

The fundamental difference between the two men’s CVs is that Spivac has fought a much higher-calibre of fighter than Cortes-Acosta. The Dominican fighter has risen to 11th after beating so many fighters outside of the rankings but this represents a major step up for him.

He could of course rise to the challenge but we are not writing Spivac off just yet. He has bounced back after every loss in his career so far and he is an impressive technician. We marginally prefer Spivac but our play here is on the fight not going the distance. We do not see any way this goes all 15 minutes and that makes for a fantastic fight to watch.

Prediction: Fight will not go the distance
