Flavio Cobolli ended a four-match losing run as he defeated three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka at the Lyon Open. The Italian was in complete control, winning 6-2 6-4 after just 67 minutes on court. The world number six remains in a strong position to qualify for the World Tour Finals in his home country next month. Cobolli has already won a title this season, at the Mexican Open.

He faces Brandon Nakashima next. The 25-year-old comfortably made it through to the last eight after a win over Kyrian Jacquet. Nakashima won 6-4 6-3. He required three sets to beat Hamad Medjedovic in the opening round. The American’s best result of the season was at the Canadian Open, where he reached his first ever Masters 1000 final.

He also leads the head-to-head 1-0 against Cobolli, following a straight sets win at the Madrid Open in 2025. Despite being the lower-ranked player, Nakashima’s serving ability should keep the sets competitive.
