Pierre-Hugues Herbert vs Taylor Fritz prediction

Pierre-Hugues Herbert notched up his first tour-level victory of the season after comfortably beating Sebastian Baez in straight sets. The Frenchman created 14 break point opportunities in total and was not broken on his own serve, winning 6-3 6-4 after an hour and 38 minutes. He has now won three matches in a row, including qualifying. 

He faces second seed Taylor Fritz next. The American’s disappointing season continued in Shanghai after a defeat in the third-round against Stefanos Tsitsipas. That was preceded by an early loss at the Japan Open to Jaume Munar in three sets. Fritz has struggled with a knee issue this season, and he is now ranked outside the top 10 of the world rankings. His chances of qualifying for the World Tour Finals next month are slim.

Herbet does lead the head-to-head 1-0, but that was all the way back in 2018 against an inexperienced Fritz at the Miami Open. Nevertheless, I do expect him to raise his game and make this match competitive for at least a set.
