Corentin Moutet notched up just his second top 50 victory of the season after beating compatriot Ugo Humbert in three sets at the Lyon Open. Moutet had not competed since the US Open, but he marked his return with a 6-2 6-7 (5) 7-6 (4) win after over three hours on court. He has now won all three of his matches against Humbert.

Moutet faces another Frenchman in the next stage of the event, Felix Balshaw. The 20-year-old defeated Jaime Faria in three sets to secure his first ever main draw win on the ATP Tour. Balshaw won 6-2 4-6 6-3.

Moutet’s variety and willingness to change pace could make life difficult for Balshaw, who will look to dictate with aggressive hitting from the baseline. However, the 27-year-old’s demanding encounter with Humbert may become a factor against a younger opponent who has played considerably more competitive tennis recently.
