Stefanos Tsitspas’ resurgence continued at the Shanghai Masters as he reached the round-of-16. The former world number three defeated Kimmer Coppejans, Luciano Darderi and Taylor Fritz before a hard-fought loss to old rival Daniil Medvedev. The Greek is now back inside the top 40 of the world rankings, having also reached the fourth-round of the US Open – his best ever result at Flushing Meadows. Tsitsipas has also won a title in 2026; the Swiss Open in Gstaad back in July.

He faces Aleksandar Kovacevic. The American has lost five of his last six matches. Kovacevic lost his opening match at the Chengdu Open and then failed to qualify in Tokyo after a defeat to Jaume Munar. He was beaten by 2021 Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini in the first-round of the Shanghai Masters. He is now ranked outside the world’s top 80.

The head-to-head is tied at 1-1, with Kovacevic winning their last meeting at the Winston-Salem Open in August. I expect Tsitsipas to exact revenge with a comfortable win here.
