Stefanos Tsitsipas progressed to the next round of the Almaty Open after a three set victory over Aleksandar Kovacevic. Tsitsipas took the lead after winning a lengthy first set tiebreak, but Kovacevic levelled the match in the second. The former world number three would still come through to win 7-6 (9) 3-6 6-3. His only previous appearance at this event in 2022 saw him reach the final, where he lost out to Novak Djokovic. 

He will face Mikhail Kukushkin. The 39-year-old, who will retire after this tournament, extended his career by at least one more match following a win over Stefanos Sakellaridis. Both sets went to tiebreaks, with Kukushkin winning 7-6 (4) 7-6 (3). 

Tsitsipas leads the head-to-head 5-0. Their last meeting was at this tournament four years ago, with the two-time Grand Slam finalist winning 6-3 6-4. I expect a similar type of scoreline this time around, with Tsitsipas gathering further momentum.
