Arthur Fils was unable to produce a deep run at the Shanghai Masters, following a loss to Botic van de Zandschulp in the third-round. He also lost to Valentin Vacherot in the quarter-finals of the Japan Open. Nevertheless, this has been a breakthrough season for Fils, with his first Masters title at the Cincinnati Open. Furthermore, he moved into the top 10 of the world rankings for the first time in his career. In terms of the Race to Turin, he is currently in eighth place, and a strong display here would boost his chances even further. Fils is the top seed and received a bye in the first-round.

Jaume Munar is his opponent. Munar was untroubled in his opening match, beating Federico Cina in straight sets. The Spaniard conceded just the one break point, winning 6-4 6-3 after just an hour and 23 minutes. 

Fils leads the head-to-head 3-0. They last faced each other in a dramatic match at the 2025 French Open, with the Frenchman winning in five sets. The 22-year-old has a strong record indoors, aided by his heavy forehand and superb athleticism. I expect him to take control from the start.
