Benjamin Bonzi began his Lyon Open campaign with a three set win over Cameron Norrie. The Frenchman lost to Norrie in five sets right at the start of the year at the Australian Open, but he exacted revenge with a 6-3 3-6 6-3 victory in the opening round. He now leads Norrie 2-1 in the head-to-head.

Tommy Paul will be his next opponent. The American received a bye in the opening round as the fourth seed. Paul’s Asian swing began poorly, following a heavy defeat to Alejandro Tabilo at the Japan Open. However, he rebounded strongly at the Shanghai Masters, advancing to his third Masters 1000 quarter-final of the campaign. His run ended against former world number one Daniil Medvedev in three sets.

Paul is the firm favourite, but Bonzi can be a very competitive player in these conditions. Nevertheless, the 29-year-old will be expected to make it through to the last eight.
